It’s easy to look back on 2020 and write it off as easily the worst year ever….I mean seriously it’s been a year like no other. While it’s okay to talk about the bad things that have happened this year and I encourage us to, it’s important that we don’t just complain but that we discuss what we are going to do to change things. 2020 was the year that God chose to amplify my voice and I earned clarity in God’s purpose for my life. So today, here are a few things that I give thanks for in 2020:
January – God saw fit to allow me to see another year as I turned 39.
February – I was able to travel to Jamaica for the first time and see Jill Scott before the world shut down.
March – God saw fit to allow the family of Breonna Taylor to allow me to be a part of the fight for justice for Breonna. This gave me a new sense of purpose, honor, and privilege.
May – after being on shut down for two months, the world began to pay attention to the murders of Ahmaud Arbery, Breonna Taylor, and George Floyd. For many Americans, they finally realized enough was enough and the way black and brown communities are policed has to change.
June – August – the Justice for Breonna family grew exponentially. Breonna’s purpose to save lives began to be amplified in her honor. My freedom family and friend circle expanded. I had a first row seat to see people risk their lives and freedom while fighting for something they truly believed in.
September – probably the hardest month in the fight for justice because AG Daniel Cameron showed America that he could care less about the laws of KY and failed to present charges on behalf of Breonna to a grand jury. But God had a higher purpose which was to open the world’s eyes and expose how flawed the grand jury system is even more so that he has with other cases in recent history. Oh also – I survived a bout of the Rona in early September.
October – I took a small retreat with friends to Savannah, encouraged people to turn the protest into power at the voting booth, and continued to fight for Justice for Breonna. It should be known that this fight will continue until we have justice.
November….ding, dong 45 will be gone….enuff said. Now let’s make sure that President-Elect Joe Biden appoints an Attorney General that recognizes the importance of our civil rights and the necessity of police reform in America.
So as we approach the end of 2020, let’s continue to turn tragedy into triumph by changing the world.
Hey Sis, you are absolutely correct, there is so much to be thankful for. I’m truly thankful for my today trials because they will be my tomorrow triumphs. Thank you for sharing you and your thoughts.
